Nick King
Fire Alarm Specialist
Early in 2024, Nick King joined Thompson Electronics Company as a Fire Alarm Specialist. Starting out, Nick received an education through the Peoria Area Electrical JATC and began his career as a field technician with the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). Over the course of 19 years, he’s held roles in project management, estimating, and design engineering in the low-voltage industry. Nick has extensive experience working in a variety of markets including education, healthcare, manufacturing, industrial, and agricultural. He holds a NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Certification Level II in Fire Alarm Systems and intends to pursue Levels III and IV as he continues his career.
What Nick likes most about being a fire alarm specialist is helping customers solve problems and creating solutions to enhance their system needs and protect their business. His philosophy is “I’m here to help!”
Outside of work, Nick enjoys music, playing the guitar, singing, and playing golf (when he has time). He aspires to get back into theater at some point, which is what he originally went to school for and how he met his wife. Nick states, “In my main career, I am a husband to my beautiful bride and a father to 5 amazing children.”
What I am working on
I am currently working on several opportunities with several churches, as well as other types of organizations, to provide fire alarm system replacements.
What I'm passionate about
First and foremost, I am passionate about my family. In my career, I am passionate about taking care of all the companies and clients I work with to the best of my ability.
Industry trends
There is a big shift in the fire alarm industry that is migrating to more advanced technology that allows for more accurate alarm notification, as well as system health through data and analytics. Many of the changes are driven by stricter regulations and upgrades to the NFPA. You are also seeing many customers upgrading their systems from a conventional system to an addressable system to gain more pinpoint accuracy when there is a trouble or alarm on the system. This is mostly prevalent in medium to larger systems.
