About Us
In 1980, Craig Thompson founded Thompson Electronics Company (TEC) in Peoria, Illinois to provide electronic systems expertise statewide. TEC was created as a relationship-based company that strives to build and maintain connections with clients. Today, we are Illinois’ top electronic systems experts in audiovisual, healthcare and education communication, fire alarm, and security solutions. Providing design, project management, and installation, TEC delivers a high-quality custom service that ensures 24/7 protection to all commercial, industrial, and government accounts. Our solutions and designs are based on a facility’s unique characteristics, and each system is professionally installed by certified and factory-trained technicians.
During the fall of 2020, we opened an office in Naperville, Illinois to ensure maximum coverage in northern Illinois and Chicagoland. The Peoria and Naperville teams work together to provide seamless project management and service throughout the state.
On November 1st, 2023, Thompson Electronics Company joined Scutum North America, a global security and fire protection provider that protects people, assets, and infrastructure. With the highest level of integrity and professionalism, the company provides technological solutions that deliver high-quality security and safety services. Scutum leverages 30 years of expertise to exceed client expectations with agile solutions in North America and Europe.
The relationship between Thompson Electronics and Scutum allows for continued quality systems and exceptional service and offerings. “This is an exciting new step for Thompson Electronics Company as we pursue our growth. The synergies between the two companies will extend our reach and offerings to better serve our clients”, states Craig Thompson.
In April of 2025, Craig Thompson officially retired from Thompson Electronics Company.
January 1, 2026, Thompson Electronics Company will transition to a new name, Scutum. Although our name is changing, our team and our commitment to our clients remain the same. This change brings new and exciting opportunities through the Scutum family of branches.
