Dan Kesner is a Fire Alarm and Mass Notification System Specialist who started at Thompson’s in 2021 but has been in the industry for almost 25 years, beginning as a fire alarm technician. Dan has also spent his successful career as a project manager, service department manager, and in sales for a combined 15 years.
Dan spent time in college pursuing a degree in education, but then turned to a career in fire alarm and has been in the field ever since. Dan has a NICET certification for fire alarm.
Dan finds the most rewarding part of his job to be the sense of achievement in finding the right solution for a project; doing something extra gives him a great sense of pride. For example, Dan revels in adding value to a Plans and Specs Bid opportunity to an Electrical Contractor by pointing out potential change orders and pitfalls, or by clarifying design or specification intent to a Project Engineer. Dan will use his technical background, and some creative thinking, to lead a client to the best possible outcome for a retrofit project. He will give it his all to provide the right design for a project in development based on applicable codes and amendments, that meet or exceed the project’s objectives (whether they be feature-based, aesthetics, or economics).
Dan and his wife, Nicole, have lived in Normal, Illinois for most of the past 8 years. They met and married in the Chicago area, where they both spent most of their adult lives but have come to equally enjoy the Central Illinois area. In 2016, they had their son Clayton. Dan spends most of his free time with his wife and son. He enjoys watching, teaching, and enjoying Clayton as he grows up. He also enjoys music (he’s a big Dave Matthews Band fan), trying new and different foods, and the occasional bit of travel.
