Post-run headache
Mar 6th, 2010, 3:18pm

After a long run or tough workout I have a tendency to get a lasting headache.  I think it might be a dehydration thing, but tend to lean toward nutrition.  As part of my Clinton training, I've been teaching myself to handle running with something other than an empty stomach.  I used to always run on empty.  This morning before my long run I ate a Bavarian cream filled donut and an apple fritter, and now I don't have a headache!  Must be the cure!  I'm sold!  Eat donuts!!!!!!    Smiley

Nah, pretty sure it was a donut deficiency.  Glad you found the cure, Mitch!  Grin  How was Jubilee today guys?

it was good...the north end of the park is pretty nice, though we didn't see the half of it.  we did about 18ish....I forgot my GPS at home and Mitch forgot to turn his on for about 20 mins so we aren't sure on the exact amount we went.

I managed to get a big ash on my achillies area when my foot went through some ice on the trail and got cut by the ice shard around mile 9-10....its pretty gnarley looking....made a really clean cut surprisingly.

we got a good laugh when Mitch's map fell out of his pocket and we watched it get carried away down stream on a creek crossing ...the map securely wrapped in plastic so it wouldn't get wet....note to self add a tether next time.

we saw Dierker and friend on the trail and saw Adam Z. at the start and joined him for a good 8 miles-ish back to his truck on the north end of the park.

weather was freak'n beautiful...I ran in shorts outside (in IL) for the first time since Nov.   I felt so light!

and my Nathans backpack is awesome but needs a high-flow valve on it ...plan to get an aftermarket valve...it rides really nicely...I recommend!

oh yea....also...trails were still covered in icey snow....and the other areas were getting pretty slimey by the time we left.  I am looking forward to no more snow and ice on the trails.....it seems so easy running on the dirt after all that snow though.

Well, Greg about covered it.  Steadily rolling hills were nice for my complaining knee as opposed to killer ups and downs at McN.  We were also working on some Clinton racing strategies such as:  rearward snot rocket propelling (to deter would be passers), elbow throwing, heel kicking, etc.  Grin

Sounds like a good time!  Though you should know, the snot rockets aren't enough to deter me from trying a pass - I've been working on snot rockets for distance, I should be able to knock you off the trail at 20 paces by Clinton!  Shocked

I'd like to see him expel a donut from his nose on the trail.  Now that would be a good pass prevention weapon.  And it would help you forestall a postrun headache. Very efficient.

That donut ought to slide right down for even faster headache relief!  Great idea!

A long time ago I used to get headaches after my 20 mile runs.

Later I began to understand it was because I had skipped my coffee.

If you feel good during an ultra, don't worry. You'll get over it.
