what to look for in a Treadmill ?
Jan 5th, 2010, 10:07am

I'm thinking that eventually I will give in and buy a treadmill.

For those who have them or use them regularly.... What features can you not live without?  What features did you buy and never use?  any specific brands good/bad?

let me know what you think.... I'd hate to buy a piece of junk.

I have a Pacemaster ProSelect that I can run up to 8 mph and 6% incline.  Very sturdy and used for 8 years now.  Cost about 2k.  Remember you get what you pay for.

I have a Vision Fitness T9600 treadmill that I purchased from Russell's and it is awesome to say the least. It was pricey, however well worth the investment and Russell's offers great financing with no interest. It's very smooth, more so than most I've run on at fitness clubs. You'd be more than welcome to stop over and give it a try since you live pretty close. It has a quick speed adjustment which is great for speed interval training (got to love Yasso 800's on a treadmill). It has incline up to 15 and several preprogramed features and a heart rate monitor. I can't speak highly enough as far as treadmills go. Russell's staff were great at helping pick out what I needed. You do get what you pay for.

yeaa...these things are expensive....I keep reading horror stories on all the less expensive models (600ish)....so I may need to look into the 1000-2000 range.

Christy, I may head to Russel's if they have 0% interest.... the 9600 visions seem really nice....but wow! its a lot of money!  I may check out the 9550 instead because it is available as a folding unit...which I would need for sure.

think anyone will have any good end-of-crappy-weather sales coming up?  I'll try to haggle either way....i'm kind of a cheap bastard like that Smiley

I've got a Nordictrack C2500 from Sears.  Got it a couple years ago as a gift.  It folds up vertically to take up less space, and is heavy but movable.
Things to think about:
running surface length- mine's 5ft and I wouldn't want to go any shorter, I like having a little room to work with if I'm struggling.
inline and decline- incline to 12%, wish they made them with a decline too.  I'd love to enjoy a little down action after the up!
programmable workouts- I love the competitive training feature so I can run against little computer dudes.
speed- mine's 12mph, have never had to run it that high undecided, but nice to know it's there if I get there.
connectivity- wish it had usb or network connectivity to monitor and create workouts from a PC.

Check out the NordicTrack X7i  Shocked Shocked

40% incline  Shocked ...6% DECLINE  Shocked

0-12mph.

you can program it to match elevation from google-maps.

I'm going to stop by Sears and give it a test run....I'm a little concerned about the short running belt....I don't want to fall off it!  I think this might be the one for me if its not to short!

Looks pretty sweet!  Jillian Michaels will kick your 4$$!  Shorter belt little scary though, wouldn't leave room to fall back a little bit.  Let us know how it runs!  That incline looks wicked!  That'll be good McN training!

well I went to Sears and gave it a test run.....

i tried going fast on a flat incline and didnt run out of belt....

I tried going slow on a steeeeep incline and did good there too.

it IS a little shorter than I'd like, but I realize there's not much you can do for that given the steep incline options

the zero% incline is actually slightly inclined....i think they use the "2% to mimic the resistance on real ground" as their "flat"

running on the decline was kind of strange....nowhere near the real downhills we see in real life.

its slightly cheaper buying online with Nordictrack (shipping but no taxes) than buying at Sears (taxes, no shipping)

....I think I'm gonna do it Shocked .....dang it thats a lot of money.....

....deep breath....

*click*

SOLD!  hopefully it will be here soon!   you can all come over and play on it when it gets here Smiley

It's worth it.  Couple thousand dollars of health.  Wink

As far as the zero, mine self levels if the key is in during power up.  It's also a Nordictrack so yours might do the same.  The Sears people might not be too concerned with proper setup.

i'll be paying for it for the next few months Smiley

i'm pretty stoked about the google maps training runs....I am a map junkie (i have topomaps or places I've been just because I like them) so I think it will help keep the treadmill more interesting....

pretty excited to get it now Smiley
